Our Catching Program

Program Begins November 21st

The CBSA Catching Academy is a unique opportunity for athletes to harness their talents and improve their skills in the art of catching. The goal of this program is to meet every player at their current skill level and provide hands-on instructions in a combination of one on one or small group setting so that they can reach their full potential. The program is based on a fun filled, fast paced training philosophy which will build confidence and leadership skills required for the catching position. The academy schedules weekly classes from November through March (18 total Weeks).

The lessons focus on the fundamentals of receiving first, with particular emphasis on balance base stances, body control, correct footwork and glove action. The secondary lessons focus on throwing accuracy, quickness, transfer/release, strength and velocity. Clemente Sports provides a unique indoor environment which allows the student to throw 127’.3”, the entire distance from home plate to second base for the 60’-90’ field and any distances at all other age levels including Softball. This feature allows for efficient practice and continued improvement on catchers pop-times to second base. The course will also focus on proper concept and technique of blocking/recovery, bunt defense, understanding cutoffs and blocking of plate, calling of games, catching live pitching and pickoffs.

Students are expected to make a solid commitment to improve their catching skills during the program cycle. Fundamentals and advanced catching topics will be addressed including mental and physical approaches for the high school and college participants. Players will be treated as professionals and expectations will be high. Participants will gain important skills and insights and will be encouraged to improve their natural abilities and strengths with staff recommendations. The program and lessons will promote a “give and take” dialogue amongst the coaches and players. There will be two 1½ hour sessions every Wednesday & Sunday afternoons starting. Each player will be assigned a session time by Age.
